London Day 2

Our 11 hour long tour begins at Windsor Castle, site of the most recent royal wedding. St. George’s Cathedral is gorgeous! Not too big, it feels intimate, ancient and light. Memories of the wedding still so fresh make me see the Cathedral through a different lens and enjoy the visit even more. From there we go see the state apartments, a collection of sumptuous, beautiful rooms where the English royals have been hanging out for about 1,000 years and where the Queen still receives foreign heads of state.

Standing at a window overlooking the courtyard from where Harry and Meghan took off in that stunning Jaguar last month, I try (in vain) to spot QE II who is in residence today. Too bad no pictures are allowed inside the Cathedral or the castle.

Finally, the Changing of the Guard, before we hurriedly make our way through the lovely town to our coach.

Next stop: Bath. Lovely limestone city of 90,000 people and dating back 2,000 years, it’s most famous site are the Roman Baths and it has become a favourite of a number of Hollywood stars who have bought homes here. Chic, expensive shops line the pedestrian-only streets of the city centre. We run out of time to try a Cornish Pasty.

Last but not least, Stonehenge. One of the oldest archeological mysteries of the world, contemporary with the pyramids of Giza and the ancient Peruvian civilization of Caral, and silent testament to a Neolithic civilization who understood how the sun and the moon ruled their world. Blake is totally into it.

Altogether a very long tour but well worth it.

London Day 1

Hot, sunny, dry, decidedly uncommon but welcome weather for London. Arrived on Thursday afternoon to blue skies and temps in the high-20s and decided to stretch our legs with a long, long walk through Kensington Gardens.  Tired from the overnight flight we called it a day.

The more we travel the bigger the world seems to get. It's this paradox that keeps us planning, packing, always looking for a new frontier, an exotic destination, an exhilarating adventure.

This time our destination is the Arctic Circle, via Norway and its wondrous fjords, on board Crystal Serenity.

We'll spend a couple of days in London and board our ship in Dover on Sunday, hoping for nice weather on our sail away against the backdrop of the White Cliffs.  Come along?

It's a Wrap

I have not commented much on the days at sea (we had five on this cruise) but they truly are a highlight of Crystal cruises. We particularly...
